What is phishing?
Phishing is a method of fraud in which criminals try to obtain access to your accounts or payment data using a fake website. To do this, they make deceptively genuine copies of familiar sites – such as Chrono24, banks, or payment service providers. The aim:
- Access confidential data
- Tempt you to click on malicious links
- Open corrupt attachments
Typical Features of Phishing Emails
Recognize Warning Signs and Protect Your Business
Urgent pressure to act:
"Act immediately, otherwise your account will be blocked!"
Impersonal form of address:
"Dear customer" or your email address instead of your name
Deceptively similar sender addresses:
Minor deviations, e.g., chron024.com instead of chrono24.com
Formal errors:
Spelling mistakes or unprofessional layout
Suspicious links:
Redirection to fake websites or pages without a legal notice
This is how a phishing attack works:
- You receive an email, messenger message, or text message that appears to come from Chrono24.
- This contains a link for you to click on.
- The link takes you to a fake website that resembles Chrono24 and usually has “chrono24” in the web address (e.g., chrono24.xyz.com/login).
- You will be asked to enter your password or payment details.
- As soon as you enter the data, it is sent to the fraudsters, as they operate the fake site.
Credit Card Fraud & Phishing
Phishing attacks targeting credit card data are particularly dangerous. You are often asked to confirm alleged security queries or to update your credit card information immediately – usually under threat of having your account blocked. The consequences can be serious:
- Unauthorized debits
- Unsanctioned orders in your name
- Identity theft
How to protect yourself from phishing attacks:
Log in to your account with caution: Be careful if you have clicked on a link and are then asked to log in. Check the relevant page carefully.
Change your password regularly:Choose a secure password and change it regularly. Your Chrono24 password and email password should never be identical. Tip: Use a different password for each account.
Never enter confidential data directly in emails: Instead, open your web browser, go to www.chrono24.com and log in as usual.
Do not click on suspicious links:Move the cursor over links in emails or text messages without clicking on them. If you cannot clearly identify the URL as Chrono24, do not click on it. Do not open any attachments in suspicious emails.
Check the sender address:emails sent by Chrono24 always end with "@chrono24.com", "@reply.chrono24.com", or “@support.chrono24.com”. Fraudsters often use similar-looking sender addresses.
Pay attention to spelling mistakes or anomalies in the text:Phishing emails often contain grammatical errors or unusual wording. However, texts are getting better and better with the use of artificial intelligence. You need to be particularly careful.
Check the legal notice and data protection information:Suspicious emails often contain incorrect or no information on legal notice and data protection.
